General Care for Epipremnum aureum ‘Marble Queen’

The Epipremnum aureum ‘Marble Queen’ (aka Marble Queen Pothos) will grow long and quickly take over small containers. However, it can easily be kept in check by pruning the plant once it gets too big.

Watering

The Marble Queen Pothos has typical watering needs for a tropical plant. It's not a problem if you forget to water this plant once. It's best to only water when the top 1 inch (2.5 cm) of the soil is dry. To make sure the soil is dry, put your finger 1 inch deep in the soil and if the soil still feels dry, you can water the plant.

Where to Plant

The Epipremnum aureum ‘Marble Queen’ is not cold hardy, so if you live in a zone that gets colder than 40°F (4.4°C), it's best to place this plant in a container that can be brought indoors where it will receive room temperature. Besides, you want to keep the plant away from cold wind drafts, because this will cause brown leaves.

Plant in an area that gets a lot of bright indirect light, but avoid direct sunlight. The Marble Queen Pothos does best in bright indirect sunlight however it can also survive long periods of low light.

How to Propagate Epipremnum aureum ‘Marble Queen’

The easiest way to propagate the Epipremnum aureum ‘Marble Queen’ is by stem cuttings. These cuttings can either be grown in water first or put in the right soil directly.

Stem Cuttings in Water

This is the most successful way to propagate the Marble Queen Pothos! First, cut the stem with a sharp knife or pair of scissors, while making sure you have at least 1 node (the spot where the leaf meets the stem and aerial roots form) and three leaves on the stem. Now remove the first leaf above the cut ends.

Then place the stem in a jar filled with water (a propagation station is a great tool you can use for this, click here to buy one at Etsy) and make sure the node is submerged in water. Change the water every three days. Next, place the jar with the cut stem in a place where it will receive lots of bright indirect sunlight and wait till new roots grow out of the stem.

It can take a long time for the stem to produce roots, especially when the environment is not optimal. But when the stem has produced roots that are about 1 inch (2.5 cm) you can plant the stem in potting soil.

Stem Cuttings in Soil

This propagation method begins the same as the first method. Take the pothos cutting and remove the first leaf above the cut. Then dip the end of the cutting in rooting hormone and pot the cutting in a good soil mix (1:1 peat moss and perlite). Make sure the node of the cutting is submerged under the soil.

Next, you want to make a humid environment for the cutting by placing a transparent bag (with a few holes) over the pot with the cutting. Keep the soil moist and keep the rooting pothos out of direct sunlight. After a month you can remove the plastic bag and the plant will show new growth!
